THE TIMBER FLOOR CARE AND MAINTENANCE

There are some commonsense precautions which you must take which will help to extend the life of the surface finish, and preserve the warranties.

PROTECTION
Place quality mats by outside entrances to prevent grit, sand and dirt being tracked onto the floor. Sand and grit will scratch the surface, and dirt will dull the finish. Place rugs in high traffic areas. Keep pet’s nails trimmed.

Use rugs or floor protectors between heavy objects (such as tables, chairs, beds etc ) and the floor, and do not drag items across the floor.

Rearrange rugs and furniture periodically so that the floor ages evenly as UV sunlight can, over time, change the colour tones in the wood.

Maintain a reasonably stable indoor temperature and humidity range. Average Relative Humidity should be maintained between 40% -70%, and the average temperature should be between 18º -25ºC. The temperature inside the dwelling should not exceed 35ºC. Do not put a timber flooring outside, or in an uncontrolled environment where extreme temperatures or humidity levels are experienced.

If you wish, there are products on the market which may be applied to the floor as an additional sacrificial wear layer. These may be applied in the areas which are likely to be exposed to particularly high levels of traffic. However, the manufacturer will not be responsible for any damage or defects caused by the application of these products.
MAINTENANCE
  • Vacuum, or sweep the floor regularly to minimize the accumulation of dust, grit, and sand.
  • Blot up spills immediately.
  • Occasionally wipe the floor with a damp mop, or with an approved wood floor cleaner to remove accumulated dirt. Do not use a solvent based or an abrasive cleaner to clean a timber floor.
